Bubble World News: The Gazillion Bubble Show Closes off-broadway

A Truly Bitter-Sweet “End of an Era” Moment

If you had told me 10 years ago that my path would intertwine so beautifully with the world of stage magic, bubbles, and pure whimsy, I probably would have said, "you're crazy."

Well, the road has been incredible, but today it brings some truly bittersweet news.

After an absolutely legendary 19-year run in New York City, the iconic Gazillion Bubble Show is officially closing its doors at New World Stages this September. For nearly two decades, that theater has been a hub of pure, unadulterated joy—bringing a little bit of literal and figurative magic to over a million people.

Why This One Hits Close to Home

For those of us who live and breathe performance, theater, and the art of capturing an audience’s imagination, Gazillion Bubble Show wasn't just a production. It was a masterclass in how to keep wonder alive.

Think about it: keeping an Off-Broadway show running for 6,802 performances is a monumental feat. It outlasted trends, weathered massive shifts in the city, and remained a multi-generational family legacy where the Yang family defied the laws of physics every single night.

Seeing a staple like this say goodbye feels like a major shift in the creative landscape. Following in the footsteps of legendary visual shows like Stomp, it really marks the end of a very specific, beautiful era of Off-Broadway novelty theater.

“What began as a unique family production became something much greater than we ever imagined.”Fan Yang, Creator

The Incredible Legacy of the Yang Family

The Yang family have earned many Guiness World Records - Including putting an Elephant inside a bubble and passing a human through the sphere of a bubble - his daughter Melody Yang slid her full body through a bubble film (an incredible feat when it comes to bubbles!)

The Gazillion bubble show has featured the legacy of the Yang Family and the story of each performer - which changes depending on who is performing to reflect their unique journey. It culminates into amazing bubble sculptures, giant bubbles, lazers,- and you guessed it - a Gazillion bubbles that floor the audience with smoke filled bubbles. Perhaps one of my favorite moments from the show. The show takes an incredible amount of bubble fluid for each performance - thankfully Gazillion Bubbles has their own bubble line that they manufacture. In the rare chance you can get your hands on one of their coveted blue bubble wands- don't pass that up while they are available!

Finding Magic in the Moments

When I heard the news about Gazillion Bubble Show closing, I couldn't help but reflect on how important it is to hold onto that sense of childlike wonder, especially when things feel a bit dark or stormy around us. It's exactly the kind of mood I've been feeling inspired by lately—focusing on finding joy in moments and people before they pop.

Sometimes, the grandest shows have to take their final bows so that new chapters can begin. The production team has already teased that national and international tours are in the works, so while Manhattan is losing a piece of its heart, the magic is just spreading outward. Luckily, The Gazillion Bubble Show has always had a simultaneous national and world tour - so for the Yang family, it will be just switching gears.

If you happen to be in NYC between now and September 7th, do yourself a favor and go catch their "Summer of Bubbles" farewell. Go remember what it feels like to just stare at something beautiful and smile. I know I am hoping to go see Melody Yang effortlessly work her charm on stage one more time at World Stages before catching the tour!

To the Yang family and everyone who made that stage a place of dreams for 19 years: thank you for showing us just how much light a single bubble can hold.
